What We Do

The Heritage Conservation Trust is an independent charity set up in 1990 on the initiative of historic house owners to provide support for historic properties

The HCT gives grants for three purposes, please note grants can only be made in respect of houses open to the public:

  • Conservation
the conservation, maintenance and restoration of works of art and objects of outstanding artistic, scientific and historic interest
  • Learning and Access
educational, access and training initiatives in and about historic houses and gardens
  • Research
research projects linked closely to the conservation of the historic or artistic contents of houses

Over its lifetime, the HCT has given support to over 40 historic houses, with total grant aid now exceeding £235,000.

Considering the low level of interest rates to support the Trust’s income in the last two years, this continued support is a major achievement, one that has been made possible by the generous donations of  regional branches of the Historic Houses Association – provided principally through Friends’ visits to historic houses and gardens – and by individual donors.  We are very grateful for their support.
